Our operational flight area covers nearly 40,000 square kilometres, reaching from the Queensland border, south to Macksville and west to Tenterfield and Glen Innes. Should the need arise, the Service can be tasked to any location in New South Wales or South East Queensland.
The very nature of our vast region - expansive, rugged, isolated and with long distances to major hospitals - makes our Service vital. In many instances, the rescue helicopter provides the only means of accessing and/or transporting patients to higher levels of medical care.
And, with an increasing number of tree and sea-changers migrating to the North Coast, demand for our Service is growing rapidly. In our first year of operation we recorded 68 missions. In 2011 we flew 315 - an average of 6 to 7 missions weekly.
